Security police clamped down on East Germany’s unofficial human rights movement, detaining four people and sentencing five others to jail terms. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said three of those detained are activists from the small independent Peace and Human Rights Initiative group. Protestant church officials said five would-be emigrants who took part in an attempted demonstration recently were tried and sentenced to terms of up to a year in jail. Church sources said it is possible the five could be put on probation, then told to leave the country. Fifty-four East German activists, detained last week for an illegal protest in East Berlin, arrived in West Germany on Sunday.
