Nation Not Ready to Elect a Black, Donaldson Says

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Jesse Jackson won’t be the next President, primarily because America is not ready to elect a black to the nation’s highest office, says Sam Donaldson, ABC chief White House correspondent.
During a news conference before a Thursday dinner speech, Donaldson said he was not making a racist statement and did not want to be compared to Jimmy (The Greek) Snyder, who was fired by CBS for comments about black athletes.
“Jackson will not be elected primarily because he is black,” Donaldson said. “This is not a racist statement, so do not call The Greek or try to have ABC fire me.”
