King Hussein of Jordan left on a European tour that will make him the first head of state to go to Vienna for an official visit with Austrian President Kurt Waldheim, who has been linked to World War II crimes while serving in the German army. The king arrived in Rome for his first stop. He is to meet with Pope John Paul II, who received Waldheim at the Vatican last year and is planning to visit Austria in June. Hussein is to go to Vienna Feb. 10--two days after the scheduled completion of a report by an Austrian-appointed commission of military historians investigating Waldheim’s service in the Balkans during the war.
