Shuttle Rocket to Be Fired With Leaky O-Ring Seals

WASHINGTON — An abbreviated version of the space shuttle’s booster rocket will be test-fired Wednesday at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center to see how intentional leaks affect the rubber-like O-ring seals, officials have announced. A million-pound weight will be put on one rocket segment to simulate the loads on full-scale rockets.
