MOSCOW — The derailment of a freight train that spilled a toxic chemical and forced evacuations near the city of Yaroslav may have been caused by metal on the railroad track, Tass said Friday.
The accident occurred last Monday about 150 miles northwest of Moscow. The chemical spilled onto and around the tracks.
Tass said 15 people remained hospitalized. The evacuees were allowed to return home, Tass said.
The report said preliminary indications are that metal parts had fallen onto the tracks. It did not say where the metal may have come from.
