Suzuki Daichi of Japan set a world’s best time for the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 25.27 seconds in a heat in Bonn’s Frankenbad pool.
He broke the previous mark of 25.47, set by Frank Hoffmeister of West Germany in February 1987. Hoffmeister came in second in the Bonn meet Friday with 25.75.
Marcel Gery of Canada set a world’s best of 24.40 in a heat in the 50-meter butterfly on the first day of a three-day international meet.
