San Dimas : Downtown Trolley Planned

In an effort to increase business in the downtown business district, the City Council voted last week to spend $118,000 on a trolley.
However, to pay for the trolley, the city must reduce spending on its Dial-a-Cab program, according to George Sparks, administrator of the Pomona Valley Transportation Authority.
Beginning this fall, the red trolley will run every 30 minutes between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily. Rides will be free for the first 90 days and 25 cents thereafter.
The route includes Bonita Avenue, San Dimas Avenue, Gladstone Street, San Dimas Canyon Road, Eucla Avenue, Arrow Highway and Lone Hill Avenue.
Money for the project will come from the city’s allocation of funds from Proposition A, the half-cent sales tax earmarked for local transportation.
In addition, to discourage cab riders and thereby reduce the city subsidy, the council agreed to increase Dial-a-Cab fares from 75 cents to $1 per ride in the city and from $1 to $1.50 outside the city. Fares for senior citizens and the disabled will remain at 50 cents.
