A mild earthquake shook the San Francisco Bay Area, but there were no reports of damage or injury. The 10 a.m. quake had a magnitude estimated at 3.3 on the Richter scale of ground motion, meaning it was capable of causing slight damage, according to Rick McKenzie, a staff research associate at the University of California Seismographic Stations at Berkeley. The temblor was centered about 7 miles northeast of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, where research is conducted on nuclear weapons and the “Star Wars” defense system. The lab is about 40 miles east of San Francisco.
