Bonita 83, El Dorado 80--Eric Smith made a 35-foot shot as time expired to give Bonita (14-10) the victory at home. Smith, a 6-4 forward, scored 35 points and led a furious Bonita fourth-quarter rally in which it outscored El Dorado, 35-25.
Smith scored 23 points in the fourth quarter. Bonita’s Greg Snedden scored 30 points.
El Dorado (12-11), led by Chris Facione’s 32 points, led 35-26 at halftime. El Dorado played without Charlie Stevens, the team’s second leading scorer (13 points per game) and leading rebounder (8), who was out with the chicken pox.
With the scored tied, 80-80, El Dorado was called for a traveling violation with three seconds left. Bonita inbounded the ball to Smith who, with two defenders on him, turned and shot from 35 feet.
It was the second time in a week El Dorado lost on a shot at the buzzer. Loara beat El Dorado, 69-67, last week on a shot from half court.
