“Speed-the-Plow,” the new David Mamet play starring Madonna and produced by the Lincoln Center Theater, will bypass that cultural complex altogether and open on Broadway, a spokesman said this week. The play was to have been performed at the 299-seat Mitzi Newhouse Theater in Lincoln Center before moving to Broadway’s Royale Theater in late April, but there’s a booking jam at the center, and the play will begin preview performances April 9 at the Royale for a May opening. Lincoln Center also confirmed that “Waiting for Godot,” starring Steve Martin, Robin Williams, F. Murray Abraham and Bill Irwin, will open Oct. 25 at the Newhouse.
