Hart’s Bid for Assembly Seat

So county Republican Chairman Tom Fuentes wants Evelyn Hart to stay out of the 70th Assembly District contest against Gil Ferguson. I say nuts to him.
Evelyn Hart has been a superb City Council member and would no doubt give our district much better than it has had in the last couple of years.
Personally, I’m rather tired of Fuentes sitting atop Saddleback Mountain and hurling thunderbolts at those would-be office seekers that he doesn’t fancy. I think that a party official should save his partisanship for the general election. Besides, in such an overwhelmingly Republican district, voters still ought to have a choice once in a while--a choice that can only be made in the GOP primary.
If Evelyn Hart wants to run (and I’m glad she does), then let her run in a contest that is not sabotaged by the GOP hierarchy. After all, it’s a free county, isn’t it?
