Local News in Brief : Molesting Counts Urged
- Share via
Police are recommending that 100 counts of felony child molestation be filed against Father Nicolas Aguilar, a visiting Catholic priest who fled to Mexico after allegedly molesting 26 Los Angeles-area altar boys.
The findings of the Police Department’s Juvenile Division were presented Friday to the district attorney’s office, which is expected to take action on the case next week, Capt. D. Clayton Mayes said.
Aguilar spent several months at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in the El Sereno area of East Los Angeles and St. Agatha’s Church in South-Central Los Angeles, where he allegedly took boys, ages 9 to 13, on private outings and fondled them.
Aguilar fled the United States in mid-January before police could question him. Church officials in Mexico say he has since resigned from the priesthood and disappeared.
