Terence Shock

Regarding this new “enigma” of Britain--you know, Terence Trent D’Arby, the Michael Jackson look-alike (“Pop’s Latest Mystery Man,” by Robert Hilburn, March 20).
I was really shocked that this new pop star with his enigmatic style and sensitive, boyish look could be compared with such rock ‘n’ roll greats as Bob Dylan, Jim Morrison and Mick Jagger.
To compare him to these unforgettable rock stars would be like reading Chapter 1 of a 10-chapter book and claiming it a best seller.
Don’t get me wrong. I do not dislike D’Arby or his music. What he is trying to do is great, but I don’t think “The Hardline According to Terence Trent D’Arby” album compares to such great rock ‘n’ roll albums as “Sgt. Pepper.”
Give D’Arby some time with his music, but keep an eye on his face. He said one of his major influences is the Jackson 5 and everyone knows what happened to Michael as he got older--he began to look younger and more sensitive (boyish).
