Supreme Court Justice Byron R. White blocked a planned merger of the photo-finishing operations of Eastman Kodak Co. and Colorcraft Corp., a subsidiary of Fuqua Industries Inc. White set aside a federal appeals court ruling that would have allowed the merger. White, granting an emergency request by San Bernardino-based Phototron Corp., said his order would remain in effect until further word from him or the full Supreme Court. The justice gave lawyers for Kodak and Colorcraft until noon Tuesday to respond to Phototron’s legal challenge of the proposed merger. Phototron contends that a Kodak-Colorcraft merger in the wholesale photo-finishing business would violate federal antitrust law.
