Local News in Brief : Costa Mesa : Home Ranch Ballot Decision Postponed

The City Council Monday night voted to postpone for two weeks a decision on whether to place a referendum on the controversial Home Ranch project on the November ballot.
On a 4-1 vote, the council asked the city attorney to review the referendum language and the general plan amendment earlier passed on the 94-acre development and report back. Councilman Dave Wheeler, a supporter of the referendum drive to overturn the Home Ranch project, opposed the postponement.
The referendum measure, sponsored by a slow-growth group, would require the council to let the city’s voters decide whether to approve or overturn the general plan amendment that would allow development on the site.
The $400-million Home Ranch project by C.J. Segerstrom & Sons calls for a 16-acre complex with two high-rise office towers in the first phase of development on what is now farmland north of the San Diego Freeway.
