An 11-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department died Friday while attending an officers convention in Riverside, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. He apparently suffered a heart attack.
Willie Lee Allen, 39, a detective on the gang detail, was at the Black Police Officer’s Assn. convention, Robinson said.
Robinson, who had known Allen for more than 10 years, described him as a popular man who was well-liked.
Allen is survived by his wife and son.
Funeral services are being arranged by the San Diego Police Officers Assn., Robinson said.
