Coping With Taxes as April 15 Nears
My wife and I work and consider ourselves middle-class wage earners who have never had the benefits of so-called tax shelters. Yet, we were disbelieving at first, then appalled at what we found on completing our 1987 taxes. Our income was up 10% over 1986. At the same time, our taxes were up an astronomical 323%. Did Congress stand up and take the heat by calling for a tax increase in 1987? No! It was called “tax simplification” and “closing a few loopholes.”
In an underhanded and sneaky way, Congress has once again perpetrated a fraud on the American public.
