Oscars & Other Oddities

The only embarrassing moment of the 60th Academy Awards Presentation was the introduction of the last and perhaps the most important award of the evening.
After having as presenters two members of the Hollywood Royalty like Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, out comes Eddie Murphy, a cardboard figure that stands for nothing except the bad taste of the American masses.
He starts his tasteless speech and dares to ask for recognition for blacks, when he is a millionaire at an age when the average American is making, as a year’s income, what he probably spends on junk food in a month.
To even hint that he--or the trashy movies he is in--is worthy of an Academy Award nomination is not only pretentious, but totally unrealistic. He chose the wrong moment and the wrong show to make a plea that is beginning to sound like an old scratched record.
