Two people were killed and one was seriously injured when a motorcyclist raced through a red light and struck a car in Canoga Park, Los Angeles police said Saturday.
Motorcyclist Luis Rios, 18, and the car’s driver, Barry Hintz, 44, both of Canoga Park, died at the scene of the 10:15 p.m. crash Friday at Sherman Way and Owensmouth Avenue, Sgt. Robert Farkas said.
Hintz’s wife, Margaret, 41, was listed in serious condition Saturday at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The crash occurred after Rios drove his eastbound motorcycle through the red light and struck the Hintzes’ 1988 Acura so hard that it flipped over, Farkas said. A witness estimated Rios’ speed at 70 to 80 m.p.h., the sergeant said.
The Hintzes were about seven blocks from their home when their car was struck, Farkas said.
