Two Stanford University professors are circulating a petition calling for the university to either put tighter controls on the Hoover Institution, or cut off all ties with the conservative campus-based think tank. Political science professor John Manley and English professor Ronald Rebholz drew up the petition after a Hoover research fellow, George Marotta, published an article claiming that the high percentage of registered Democrats among the 534 Stanford faculty members was evidence of a liberal tilt on campus that produced intolerance of the Hoover Institution.
