‘Chronicles of Love Affairs’
Poland, 1985, 118 minutes , 8 p.m . Andrzej Wajda’s first Polish film since the pro-Solidarity “Man of Iron” is perhaps his most conventional. A typically lyrical treatment of star-crossed lovers on the eve of World War II, steeped in a dark, fatalistic sense of foreboding. It helps to know that the story, adapted by Tadeusz Konwicki from his novel, is set in Lithuania, although it’s unstated.
