The Mexican Airline Pilots Assn. says it may offer to purchase Aeromexico, one of the country’s two government-owned national airlines, and turn it into a workers’ cooperative. “We pilots are willing to buy the company before it is liquidated in bankruptcy, so that it can be operated by the workers and such a source of employment should not disappear,” Juan Jose Castillo Arriaga, the president of the association, was quoted Sunday by the newspaper Excelsior as saying. Aeromexico was paralyzed by a strike Tuesday, and its directors have announced they will file for bankruptcy, following losses of $1 million daily which the federal government refuses to subsidize any more.
