Robert H. York; Retired Army General
Robert H. York, 75, a retired Army lieutenant general who commanded regiments and divisions in battles ranging from the Normandy landings in World War II to Korea and Vietnam. York, who retired in 1973, at 32 had become one of the youngest regimental commanders in the Army when he headed an infantry battalion of the 1st Division during World War II. In 1965 he was in charge of the 82nd Airborne Division task force that restored peace in the revolt-torn Dominican Republic. In San Diego on Friday of lung cancer.
