NEW YORK — NBC won its third television season in a row, according to Nielsen ratings figures released today, and is already looking toward another win next season when its Summer Olympics coverage could give it a jump on the competition if the writers’ strike continues.
NBC topped off the season by winning the final week, though the 60th Annual Academy Awards on ABC was the No. 1 show of the week. NBC ended the season with an average, prime-time rating of 16.0. ABC, which had been third for three years running, eked out second with a 13.7, thanks to the World Series, Super Bowl and Winter Olympics. CBS was third for the first time ever, with 13.5.
