Lakers Play for Home-Court Advantage

SAN ANTONIO — Helped by the Boston Celtics’ two straight losses, the Lakers can clinch the home-court advantage through the playoffs tonight with a victory against the San Antonio Spurs, their probable first-round opponent.
With four games to play, the Lakers are 58-20. Boston is 55-23. If the teams tie for best record in the league, the Lakers would have the home-court advantage because they have beaten Boston in both of their regular-season games. The lack of urgency for tonight’s game was one reason Coach Pat Riley gave the Lakers the day off Monday.
The Spurs need one more win or a Phoenix loss to clinch the eighth spot in the Western Conference playoffs.
