Simi Valley’s DeLaittre Signs With Cal Poly

Shawn DeLaittre, a 6-foot, 5-inch forward for Simi Valley High, signed a letter of intent Monday to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, a Division II school in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.

DeLaittre scored 15.2 points a game and averaged 8.9 rebounds to help the Pioneers win the Southern Section 4-A title.

Teammate Butch Hawking, a 6-2 guard, will attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Hawking averaged 12.4 points and 8.2 assists a game. Air Force is a member of the Western Athletic Conference, a Division I member.

All-American Don MacLean, the Pioneers’ 6-10 center, said Monday he would wait at least another week before making his decision. He had tentatively scheduled a press conference for Wednesday to announce his decision.

MacLean has narrowed his choices to UCLA, Nevada-Las Vegas, Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Pittsburgh.
