About 15,000 people demonstrated in Manila to underline demands for land reform. Farmers, nuns, priests and legislators waved banners saying “Land, Not Bullets.” The Philippine Congress is trying to complete land reform legislation, a key plank in President Corazon Aquino’s platform when she took office in 1986. Speakers denounced the land reform bill as a sham.
