Local News in Brief : Brea : Woman Pleads Guilty to Filing False Returns

Mary Dumas Pope of Brea entered guilty pleas Tuesday to charges that she filed false tax returns and collected $18,462 in undeserved refunds.
U.S. District Judge William B. Keller accepted the pleas and set July 23 for sentencing.
Pope was charged with filing false returns under fake names and falsely claiming employment with a food chain and an airline in 1984 and 1985.
She faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and $270,000 in fines.
