Jenrette Opts Not to Run

FLORENCE, S.C. — Former U.S. Rep. John Jenrette (D-S.C.), who was convicted eight years ago in the federal Abscam investigation, announced today that he will not seek his former congressional seat in this year’s elections. He said a federal judge has declined to terminate his parole for his Abscam conviction. One condition of that parole is that he not leave the state without checking with his parole officer.
