You love ‘em, you bring ‘em up the best you can, and still they can break your heart.
The surest bet at Hollywood Park this season is that Noble Threewitt will be there.
The 77-year-old Threewitt has been a horse trainer longer than the race track has been taking bets--50 years. And in the first race of opening day this week, his horse lost.
He shrugs it off; he’s had plenty of winners, and expects to have plenty more.
Anyway, he adds, trainers are not always the most objective observers of their equine proteges. As a former horse owner of his acquaintance once said, “You can talk about a man’s wife, but don’t talk about his horse.”
