LISBON — Mozambican right-wing rebels have freed an elderly Portuguese nun they abducted in the northern province of Tete four months ago, a spokesman for the Mozambican National Resistance said Thursday.
Sister Lucia Baptista, 67, was handed over to international aid workers in neighboring Malawi on Monday, the group’s Lisbon spokesman, Manuel Frank, told reporters.
The nun was kidnaped by the rebels, who have fought Mozambique’s Marxist government for the last 10 years, during a rebel attack in Tete last December.
