Blustery thunderstorms in the central United States broke windows with baseball-size hail as residents of five states cleaned up from an onslaught of more than 80 tornadoes the day before. Winds of up to 68 m.p.h. in Ohio were hurled by storms that ranged from the southern plains and Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes, the National Weather Service said. In Middlesboro, Ky., a thunderstorm spawned a tornado that overturned mobile homes, uprooted trees and knocked out power. Police reported injuries but had not determined the number.
