Community College Tennis : Saddleback Wins State Team Title

Mark Hansen won his singles match and teamed with Ed Peregrino for a doubles victory as Saddleback College won the community college state team tennis championship with a 5-3 victory over West Valley on Thursday at the Cabrillo Racquet Club in Oxnard.
Jamil Actha and Alaric Jura defeated Bob Coe and Ron Czerny, 7-5, 6-0, to clinch the victory. The match was ended after Saddleback had won its fifth set to clinch the victory.
Hansen defeated Jim Wilbanks, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, then teamed with Peregrino for a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Rich Beijer and Jim Widining in doubles.
Saddleback (21-1) swept singles play, as Actha and Russ Decker also won. Actha defeated Jonathan Gunn, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3, and Decker defeated Czerny, 7-5, 6-0.
The championship is Saddleback’s second. The Gauchos also won the state title in 1984.
