Police Investigate Hit-and-Run of Lakeside Man as a Homicide

A 20-year-old Lakeside man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Sunday in San Diego, but police were investigating whether the incident might have been a murder.
Dennis M. O’Connor died at the scene of the 3:15 a.m. accident in the 3400 block of Crown Point Drive, a coroner’s official said.
A coroner’s investigator determined that some aspects at the scene seemed inconsistent with an accident, prompting an investigation by police homicide detectives. Authorities would not say specifically what factors prompted them to launch an investigation.
O’Connor’s body was discovered by a passing motorist who flagged down a San Diego police officer, Sgt. Jim Long said.
In another vehicle fatality, a Fallbrook woman was killed Sunday when her car veered onto a freeway shoulder and rammed a parked car.
Gertrude Lane Rodier, 53, was southbound on Interstate 5 just north of Balboa Avenue when her car slammed into the other vehicle, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. Authorities were not able to determine why Rodier’s car drifted off the road.
