Titans Face Missouri Friday in NCAA Regional Play

The Cal State Fullerton baseball team, ranked 11th in the country, will head to Starkville, Miss., this week to compete in the NCAA South Regional, one of eight regional sites.

Fullerton will play its first game Friday, against Missouri.

Texas A&M; (50-13), ranked seventh by Baseball America magazine, is the top-seeded team in the South Regional. Tenth-ranked Mississippi State (42-18), the host team, is seeded second, and Fullerton (37-16) is seeded third.

Middle Tennessee State, Western Carolina and Missouri, all unranked, are the other teams in the six-team, double-elimination tournament.

The eight regional champions will advance to the College World Series June 3-11 at Omaha, Neb.

“I’m looking forward--and so are the players--to going to Mississippi for this regional,” said Titan Coach Larry Cochell, a member of the six-member NCAA baseball tournament selection committee. “There will be a great atmosphere for college baseball at this regional. . . . The team is ready to play. We have finals out of the way and we’re healthy.”
