USC announced plans Monday for its yearlong athletic centennial celebration, stemming from the football program that began in 1888.
A banquet Aug. 27 in the Coliseum, honoring former Trojan football players, will precede such events as:
--A campus rally before USC plays host to Oklahoma Sept. 24 at the Coliseum.
--A 25-year reunion of USC’s five national championship teams from 1962-63--in football, baseball, tennis, track and swimming--the night before USC’s homecoming game against Oregon Oct. 8.
--A 60-minute concert featuring the Beach Boys at the Coliseum following USC’s game against California Nov. 5.
--A Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce event honoring former USC athletes active in the Southern California business community on a date to be set early in 1989.
A logo has been developed for the athletic centennial and will be worn on the uniforms of USC’s athletic teams.
Bill Shumard, a former Dodger administrator, has been hired to serve as the executive director of USC’s athletic centennial.
