Local News in Brief : Downzoning OKd for 2 Burbank Properties

The Burbank City Council voted Tuesday to change the zoning of two controversial properties on the 700 block of Kenneth Road that had been zoned for apartment buildings.
The council decided 4 to 1 to change the zoning at 705 and 711 S. Kenneth Road from medium density, which allows apartment houses to be built, to a designation that will restrict development to single-family homes.
The vote came after dozens of residents from the surrounding neighborhood complained about a proposed two-story, five-unit building that the owner of one of the lots had wanted to build.
The residents had claimed that traffic, parking and noise from the building would overflow into their neighborhood.
Numerous complaints have arisen recently from residents who claim that the City Council has not acted to protect single-family neighborhoods from development of office and apartment buildings.
Mary Kelsey was the only council member who voted against the downzoning.
