A man who pointed a handgun at a California Highway Patrol officer remained at large Friday following an incident that took place late Thursday night.
Authorities said the man, who was driving a white 1979 Ford van that turned out to be stolen, pointed the weapon at the officer after being pulled over for speeding about 11:30 p.m. Thursday on the southbound Interstate 5 near Crown Valley Parkway
The driver stepped out and pointed a gun at CHP Officer Diana Sanchez as she stopped her car behind his, a CHP spokeswoman said.
Sanchez got out of her car and drew her gun. The man fled on foot on the west side of the freeway, but no shots were fired. The CHP said it searched the area but could not find the man.
