Hughes Aircraft Co. has decided to transfer between 200 and 300 employees from its Missile Systems Group headquarters operation in Canoga Park to Tucson, but will keep its base in California, spokesmen said today.
Hughes spokesmen Michael Letson in Tucson and Hal Watkins said Hughes’ Tucson payroll probably will grow by $10 million to $15 million annually. Letson said the decision ultimately will keep about 2,500 employees at the Canoga Park facility, which has about 3,000 currently. He said over the next 1 1/2 years, about 300 jobs are likely to be eliminated through reassignment, attrition and some limited layoffs.
