Flying in Sunny Weather

Peter Greenberg’s article, “Airlines Reduce First-Class Seats” (May 22) has omitted my favorite in his list of exceptions: Japan Air Lines. It uses only 747s on transpacific flights and carries up to 44 first-class passengers, depending on the configuration.

Seats recline nearly horizontally and even sleeper service with full-length berths is available on some flights for a surcharge. You can choose traditional Japanese or continental cuisine, and the service is impeccable. For an extra $25 the airline will reproduce your business card on rice paper in Japanese or Chinese. I discovered all this with an economy ticket, using my Delta and TWA mileage programs for upgrades.
