Pico Rivera : Funds for Street Widening
In an effort to get the widening of Whittier Boulevard under way, the Pico Rivera City Council will use $561,000 in federal funds for the project and replace that amount later with county money.
About $1.6 million in improvements are planned for the boulevard between Rosemead Boulevard and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway--the area in which the city’s redevelopment efforts are concentrated.
The council voted to use its federal aid urban revenue until $660,000 is received from Los Angeles County. In April, Pico Rivera traded $1.6 million in Proposition A state transportation funds to the county for 60 cents to the dollar.
The Redevelopment Agency will pay for the remaining $600,000 in Whittier Boulevard improvements.
