Long Beach : Preservation Officer’s Role

If approved by the City Council, the new historic and neighborhood preservation officer for Long Beach would serve as a coordinator of various city departments, agencies and commissions. The officer also would offer a “one-stop service” to owners and developers for assistance on the city’s historic and neighborhood preservation program.

Those are among the responsibilities the new office-holder would have, agreed the council’s Quality of Life Committee, which unanimously endorsed the proposal Tuesday. The plan, proposed by Mayor Ernie Kell, now heads back to the council for a vote. The new municipal department, which is endorsed by preservationists, would cost between $104,500 and $113,300 annually.
