Compton : Rail Work Closes Street
A segment of Wilmington Avenue in Compton will be closed through July 19 because of light-rail line construction, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission said.
Wilmington Avenue will be closed from Imperial Highway to the Southern Pacific railroad tracks while new grade crossings are installed for both the Southern Pacific trains and light-rail transit cars. Businesses can be reached by foot.
The construction is part of the $752-million, 21-mile passenger line from Los Angeles to Long Beach. The rail line is scheduled to become operational in 1990.
