Policy Is Biased, Pipe Smoker Says

Lounges in Long Beach aren’t what they used to be. On June 17 I walked into my favorite seafood restaurant and found a table in the bar. I was the only customer since it was a little too early for most people to be having lunch. After I ordered a drink and was looking over the menu, a man approached me and said there was a problem. He told me I wouldn’t be able to smoke my pipe. I naturally assumed I was in a nonsmoking area, so I asked him where the smoking area was. His reply was that only cigarette smoking was allowed in the restaurant.

Apparently, cigarette smoke is acceptable to aromatic pipe tobaccos. However, the restaurant’s policy is discriminatory. If a lounge allows smoking of only cigarettes, what about . . . little cigars? There is also a new product on the market which is actually a cigar pipe.

I am sure the manager of that establishment has not heard the end of the grumblings from customers who smoke other than the standard cigarette.
