Norwegian distance runner Ingrid Kristiansen has a benign ovarian tumor and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.
Kristiansen, world record-holder at 5,000 and 10,000 meters and the marathon, was forced to stop twice during her 10,000-meter race Saturday and lost to Britain’s Liz Lynch-McColgan. It was the first 10,000 meter race that Kristiansen had lost.
Kristiansen will jog during the six-week layoff, which will delay her preparation for the Seoul Olympic Games Sept. 17-Oct. 2.
