Education Cuts

It’s clear now to all of us in San Diego where the Board of Education puts its priorities. Administration is on the top, and teachers and children are on the bottom.
I was outraged when I read David Smollar’s article (“Glowing Evaluation Gets Payzant 26% Pay Hike,” June 29). This from a board that has been citing lack of funds as, over the past few years, it has made drastic cuts in vital programs--such as reducing the number of reading and music teachers in elementary schools, eliminating days of school attendance for children with special needs and declaring dedicated 20-year veteran teachers “in excess,” leaving them wondering where they will be teaching in the fall.
