Two unarmed Minuteman 3 intercontinental ballistic missiles have been successfully launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base, the 133rd and 134th in a series of tests of the weapons system, officials said. The first missile was fired from an EC-135 jet, the military equivalent of the Boeing 707, a base spokeswoman said. The missile reached its target in the Kwajalien Atoll test range, 4,200 miles southwest of the base in the Western Pacific Ocean, she said. The second missile was launched from the ground and followed the same path as the first, reaching the target range about 30 minutes after launch, officials said.
