Fireworks ignited a brush fire in a Chevron oil field Wednesday evening, burning about two acres in the Coyote Hills area, fire officials said.
The fire broke out near Sandlewood Avenue and Idaho Street at 6:44 p.m. and was contained at 7:55 p.m., fire dispatcher Sheryn Atkinson said.
“A few buildings were threatened for a while, but nothing burned,” Atkinson said. She added that there are homes and oil pumps in the area. About 50 firefighters fought the blaze, which investigators determined was started by fireworks, she said.
