Micropolis Corp. said its earnings fell 83% to $1.2 million in the second quarter, compared to $6.8 million a year earlier. Sales for the Chatsworth company, which makes disk drive data storage equipment for computers, climbed 38% in the quarter to $97.5 million from $70.9 million. The company attributed the drop in earnings to increased competition and problems in cutting manufacturing costs.
