Local News in Brief : Blackout in Shopping Area

About 500 businesses and residences in a Beverly Hills shopping area surrounding Wilshire Boulevard lost electricity Friday due to a malfunction in an underground electrical vault.
Firefighters were called to a number of high-rise buildings along Wilshire to help people trapped in elevators, but no injuries were reported, fire dispatchers said.
The malfunction occurred about 9:22 a.m. in an underground vault near the intersection of Charleville Boulevard and Hamel Drive. The boundaries of the outage were Santa Monica Boulevard on the north, Olympic Boulevard on the south, Beverly Drive on the west and San Vicente Boulevard on the east.
